The program provides extra revenue while helping those transition into new jobs and training, combining shelter benefits inside and out of EIA (Employment and Income Assistance). <\/span><span id=\"cke_bm_129S\" style=\"display: none;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">Rent Assist is much simpler than EIA and changes with people&rsquo;s situations. It&rsquo;s important to note that there are two types of Rent Assist:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<h5><span style=\"color:#0e101a\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">Manitobans already on EIA will receive Rent Assist if they have housing costs. The amount of benefits they get is:<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type:square\">\n<li class=\"ql-indent-2\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">Based on their rental costs.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-2\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">Based on mortgage payments, taxes, and other home fees.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-2\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">What is the number of people in the family.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-2\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">If the family\/person has other housing benefits.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-2\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">And if it includes utility costs.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<h5><span style=\"color:#0e101a\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">Low-income Manitobans who rent unsubsidized housing (housing that receives no federal or provincial assistance). The amount of RA benefits they get are:<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:none\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type:square\">\n<li class=\"ql-indent-2\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">Based on the number of people in the household and the total household income.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cdngeneralcf.rentcafe.com\/\/dmslivecafe\/UploadedImages\/ba091f23-b208-437c-8bf3-177352d1f894.png\" style=\"width: 800px; height: 533px;\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">How Much Does a Person Get from Rent Assist?<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">Rent Assist pays a benefit based on 80% of the individual&rsquo;s income and 30% of the cost of rent in the market for their family size.<\/span><\/div>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">How Do I Know If I am Eligible?<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<h5><span style=\"color:#0e101a\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">Manitobans not receiving EIA may apply if:<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type:circle\">\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">They pay rent for unsubsidized housing. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">They have a net annual income of less than $25,440 for a single person or $28,720 for a single person 55 years of age or older.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">They are a person who qualifies for the Disability Tax Credit or receives Canada Pension Plan Disability benefits.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">They have dependent children in their homes and have a net annual income of less than $41,400 for two to four people or $52,640 for five or more people.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">They are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<h5><span style=\"color:#0e101a\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">Manitobans cannot apply if:<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type:circle\">\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">They rent from Manitoba Housing.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">They already have housing benefits.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; margin-right:0cm; margin-bottom:0cm\">\n<div><span style=\"color:#0e101a\">They live in a First Nations Reserve.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\" style=\"margin-top:0cm; 1-877-587-6224 toll-free; or TTY 204-948-3698 to have an application form mailed to you.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm\"><span style=\"color:#0e101a\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">If planning on applying for EIA, call 204-948-4000 in Winnipeg; or 1-800-855-0511 (Manitoba Relay Service).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm\"><span style=\"color:#0e101a\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">Or visit any one of the Winnipeg Service locations in person to apply. Rent Assist only needs to be updated once a year when it&rsquo;s time to renew an application. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom:0cm\"><span style=\"color:#0e101a\"><span style=\"line-height:normal\">An individual can acquire a pre-approval from Rent Assist before finding a place and can submit their application but mark that it is for Pre-Approval.
