Top 10 Back to School Tips for Families

  |     |   Apartment Tips

It's not easy for anyone to admit, but the summer is officially over. Kids are heading back to their classrooms, and it's time for parents to jump into the school routine. Not the most pleasant and easy job for kids and parents, but we're here with some tips that'll make the transition easier—and more fun!

  1. Routine Game

The easiest way for kids to follow the routine is for you to make it fun. Create a daily schedule and let your kid mark it done. You can reward them with stickers and if they got enough stickers for you by the end of the week – they got a present. It doesn't have to be an expensive one – favourite food, family games, etc.

  1. Eating Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast before going to school will provide them with enough energy during the day.

  1. Time Management

Teach your kids to save time by colour-coding the clock. Mark play hours with green, study hours with orange, sleep time with blue, and so on. Let your kids help you with creating it. The more enjoyable you make it – the best psychological effect it will bring.

  1. To-Do Board

It is perfect for house chores. Get some clothespins, create cards with chores and pin them to a visible area in a kids' room. You can create a special place or hide them around the room. Each way is a great reminder to keep things on track.

  1. Clothe cubbies

It is one of my favourite hacks. Getting ready for school is also a way for kids to express themselves. Place a cube/locker/puff in the kids' room and spend a few evenings helping to prepare an outfit for the next day. This habit will teach kids to save time, help them to feel their style, and saves time in the morning.

  1. Easy Lunch

This one is an all-time favourite! Pack your lunch boxes early so that you don't have to waste time at school making them when it's busy. You'll also want to make sure your lunch boxes are easy to open, close, and pack up so that they're not messy or smelly when you get home

Kids also love to feel included in the meal-prep process. There is no limit to simple food. Inviting kids to cook together is a great idea, but make sure everyone is safe.

  1. Create a Checklist

The is always something you’ll forget, right? My teacher always told us: "money, keys, and phones" when we left the classroom. This type of checklist is very helpful. Create a "Don't forget" list and stick it to the back of the door of the kids' room.

  1. Set a Reminder

A new schedule is always hard to remember. Create a lock screen for your kid's phones. For those with no phone – write it on a piece of paper and put transparent tape on top to avoid ripping. Glue a piece of lace and tie it up to the bag.

  1. Get Rid of Distractions

Don't let your kids get distracted by electronics at home. It's tempting as parents to let them play video games or watch TV while they do their homework—but those distractions can really slow down their progress and make it harder for them to focus on schoolwork right away when they get there in the morning. So, keep those devices away from where they're doing homework until they're done with it.

  1. Take a Break

Take a break from your morning routine and do something fun with your kids before they go to school. Go outside, have a picnic or play in the park together. You will be amazed at how much better you feel when you have spent some quality time bonding with your children!
